Hudson + Harbor Estuary Projects

Client: New York-New Jersey Harbor & Estuary Program
Year: 2018 - present
Project Scope: Project management, print production, design system development, UX design, data visualization, web map design + build, data QA/QC

Studio 2263 collaborated with the NY-NJ Harbor & Hudson Estuary Program to design, develop and produce a group of 5 print and digital publications intended to communicate the impact of conservation goals around the Hudson Estuary as well as goals for future work. A unique design system and identity was developed for content across a range of formats, uses and audience types. To create clear and inviting presentations of complex content we explored the data and experimented to develop unique visualizations to suit a wide variety of indicators. The design system created for these materials has been utilized in additional projects and we are currently updating it and developing the comprehensive conservation management plan materials to serve HEP and their partners through 2035. Additional projects have included the Environmental Monitoring Plan and the Comprehensive Restoration Activity Map; interactive geospatial databases that cover restoration and environmental monitoring opportunities and past activities in the Harbor Estuary. The sites are designed to provide multiple ways to filter, search and explore the information. For HEP and Estuary partners, we also designed and built a print map and guide for canoeing and kayaking in the New York - New Jersey Harbor Estuary. The dense geometry of the street network and built environment are utilized in the design to visually contrast with the organic color and shapes of the Estuary and emphasize the unique environment of the Hudson within the urban setting.
